2 Kings
with Dr Dean Posey
At the beginning of the Walk Thru the Bible reading for Monday, April, 14, we read these words in II Kings 23:1-3, “Then the King called together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. He went up to the temple of the Lord with the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets- all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord. The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord, to follow the Lord and keep His commands, regulations, and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then the people pledged themselves to the covenant.” That last sentence is very important for us. The king read the words of Scripture and then the people “pledged themselves to the covenant.” The reason they “pledged themselves to the covenant” is because they had broken the covenant and their lives showed that they were not living lives honoring the Lord. Isn’t it amazing that we have a God that never wavers in His commitment to the covenant He made to us through His Son Jesus? Even when we waver in our commitment to that covenant, God never wavers in His commitment to us. This is Holy Week- the week between Palm Sunday and Easter. What a great time to recommit ourselves to the covenant keeping Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our lives and the lives of others will be better for it.
