The vision of First United Methodist Waco Children’s Ministry is to partner with parents and family members to raise up Christ-like disciples by reaching, teaching and preparing children to know Christ and to make Him known. This is the motivation behind everything that we do in our Children’s Ministry. We want you to know that God is using YOUR family to grow HIS family. We know that parents and grandparents are the primary spiritual mentors in a child’s life. It is our intention to help give you the tools to lead your children in your home. We strive to use curriculum, activities, and events that naturally open the doors of conversation in your home. We, along with the best team of volunteers, look forward to serving your family over the next year.
We provide quality and consistent paid staff, as well as volunteers to love and care for our babies. During all worship services, babies are offered an age-appropriate curriculum. It’s never too early for them to hear how much God loves them.
Our preschool ministry strives to have the same amount of energy and excitement as our preschoolers! We believe in hands-on learning in whatever we are teaching these precious children. We provide weekly tools for parents to take home that correlate with what their child is being taught so the learning can continue all week. We also provide opportunities for these children to worship and serve.

On Wednesday evenings kids enjoy Bible Bonanza!, a comprehensive, fun, and rewarding program of Bible study and extracurricular activities, where students learn the essentials of our living faith in Jesus Christ. Ongoing extracurricular student activities and Bible verse memorization are important features of the program and are encouraged through frequent awards in the form of Bible Bonanza! Bucks, Bible covers, pins, ribbons, and more. Games, mealtime, music and Bible time are provided on Wednesdays from 5:00 - 7:15 pm. Come join us and be part of the fun!
56 Unplugged (5th & 6th Grade)
This is our program on Sunday mornings for our 5th and 6th graders! We offer relevant topics and discussion for kids. Kids enjoy hang time with their friends, solid biblical teaching and small groups as they go a bit deeper in the exploration of their faith! We are so excited about Confirmation this year! If you are currently in 6th - 8th grade and are interested in being confirmed in the Methodist Church, then you are invited to join us on Wednesday nights, beginning Jan. 9th, 2019! Please be praying about a special adult that can be your “Friend in Faith” to journey with you through confirmation! Make sure to check the information below, get registered and complete the MinistrySafe Requirements! (Retreat info coming soon!)
Friend In Faith Commitment to First Waco and The Confirmand
- Attend the Friend in Faith/Parent training January 6th at 12:15 pm (snack lunch provided).
- All Friends in Faith are asked to attend the final Confirmation Class on April 3rd .
- Attend the Confirmation Ceremony Service to support your Confirmand and his/her family at 10:50 am on April 28th.
- Participate in one group activity with your Confirmand.
- Meet as often as you wish with your Confirmand. Strive to meet at least 6 times during the semester. As you talk with your confirmand, get to know them! Ask about their day, their week, their life! Review any questions they may have about the information they are learning, and talk about how the lessons can apply to their own life! This is a time of relationship building, so have fun sharing the joy of Jesus with your Confirmand!
- Turn in MinistrySafe forms to the Children's Office by Dec. 6th, and complete all MinistrySafe requirements by January 6th, 2019. (Forms online)
- Understand that staff members and volunteers should never conduct one-to-one, unobserved meetings or interaction with children while participating in our Children’s Ministry programs. An additional adult who has completed the required safety application and screening process should always be present. Never will a child or youth be alone with an adult in a vehicle. (This excludes a parent transporting their own child.)
- With the above requirement in mind, we recommend that you pair up with at least one other non-related Friend in Faith/Confirmand pair. These “buddies” can open up more outside activities for you and your Confirmand, if you so desire. Sharing time, discussing and exploring faith together with your Confirmand in this manner, is a plus!
- We have made it easy for you to shoot some baskets and hang out in the FLC from 5:00 – 5:30pm on Wednesday evenings with your Confirmand. You can also join them for a fun meal on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 6:00 pm. Once class begins at 6:00 pm, Confirmation Leaders, Table Leaders and Confirmands will be those attending class.
